Papers

Out of the papers I wish to put in my portfolio, I believe that my superstar narrative was the best example of my work. It was a topic i enjoyed writing on, and was a paper mainly about our commentary. With that being said, it was easier to write about a topic which I liked, and one that was mainly about me. However even though I felt it was my best work, it was actually one of my lowest scoring papers. So in a way it needs the most work as well. Maybe I am not good paralleling a hurdler's life to my own life being that I am a hurdler. Maybe I am better at writing research papers, reports inscribed into essays. I lacked the "my story" in the paper. So making a better connection between Edwin Moses and I will help my superstar narrative become better.

Primary Source

My primary source for the research project is the movie The Karate Kid. I choose this source because I believe it teaches valuable lessons of patience, perseverance, and above all respect. My audience is primarily the youth of our generation, but also is focused at parents, the people who have the influence over these young minds. I hope that my audience will get a better sense of how important of a role the three aspects above help in developing a succeeding youth in today's harsh world.

Group F response

I think none of his heroes went looking for death, or even placed themselevs in predicaments close to death. Afterall, Thoreau may have loved the wild, but he also worked for the government, being a land surveyer marking out lots of land the US intendended to sell. I do not kno w the background of Haines or London, but I would assume that all three of these being's view of nature were taken as a secondary position. It was important for them to live and be apart of the wild, but their need did not drive to want to become trapped in a desert or rock climb a death mountain. For them, they knew nature was right in their back yards

Group E Response Reasons for Escape

If Chris and Ruess both had families that understood them they way they wanted to be seen by their environmental heroes, then I think they would have ventured, but not in an extreme fashion. Had their family support their outdoor endeavors, their willingness to be apart of the earth, I feel that they would not venture as far as they did from their families and society. Since they feel that these issues are present even though to many on the outside their lives might be quite lot smoother than most, their family problems could have been seen as a weak excuse to go and prove to themselves who they really are. It's one thing to go against your families well doing for you, it's another thing to go against your family to the exremem of killing yourself

Group D response Rewriting Into the Wild

If I were to rewrite Into the Wild, I would not change my rhetoric, rather change the bias of the book. I would report the story exactly as it was and only leave my personal comments in the book to the epigraphs at the beginning of the chapters. My rhetoric would mostly be pathos, because if I am the author of a book and I want my readers to feel the same way as I do. I would bring a strong emotional aspect to my book in a way that the reader can't help but to choose my side, without all the bias comments Krakauer inputs. If anything, my story would be called: Into the Wild, as Seen Through the Emotions Of Alex Supertramp.

Group C response, Adoption

I would never let someone adopt me. First of all unless I knew the person as long as I knew my parents then there could have been a possiblity. In this case however Ive known this person maybe close to a year. Thats not enough to have someone adopt me, leaving all my friends and family behind and taking on a new last name. Chris did not accept the adoption because he wanted his journey to be a journey that he traveled alone in. Had he been adopted I don't think he would have went to Alaska unless he took the old man with him of course, which would equal two people's death... instead of one.

Group B response, Presidential

I was not inspired during the last election, rather surprised that someone who is a person of color would get elected to be our nations president. I found it more shocking that there were not more attempts to take Obama's life away before he got elected president. It kinda seems like our world is changing, people are becoming lax on their views of people barriers based off of their skin color. I felt that this election had hype, but still not even as much hype as the 2004 election because it was so close with votes whereas this election was a landslide. The only thing I could say to improve elections is: don't mess up the count!
